Auditioning for the Ted Mack Variety Show, I met Richard, the only member of his vocal trio to show up for the audition. He sang beautifully solo. We talked and a few months later I was part of Oasis, a nine piece soul band. I bought my first electric guitar (the one I still play) and delved into a world of music I hadn't known existed. My first ever difficult career decision arose when one of our gigs conflicted with going to a dance with the incomparable Ellen Hansen. I could either stay in the band or go to the dance. I went to the dance.
